Rifle, Colorado welcomes hunters during all seasons! Duck or goose hunting on the Colorado River, pack in by horse or ATV to some of the best deer and elk hunting, or bring your dog to kick up a pheasant or two from the tall grass.
Rifle, Colorado is the gateway to the White River National Forest, all in which provide some of the best mule deer and elk hunting in the state of Colorado.
Big game areas 32, 33, and 42 are all within the Rifle area.

License Requirements
- You must have a license to hunt and you must carry your license with you at all time when you are hunting. To obtain a license to hunt CLICK HERE for a direct link to apply for a license or contact the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW):(800) 244-5613 for more information.
- You can only hunt the animal, season and area which is stated on your license. To see a complete listing of animals and season dates, CLICK HERE.
- Hunter's born on or after January 1, 1949 must have completed an approved hunter education course or bowhunter education course (for archery licenses only) sanctioned by a state before applying for or purchasing a license. You must present your hunter safety card when buying a license. Need to take a hunter safety course?
